The very well-known Malayalam writer P. Valsala passed away at the age of 85 on November 21. Valsala was admitted to the KMCT Medical College at Mukkom. Her family revealed that her cause of death was heart failure.
In her lifetime, Valsala penned over 25 Nizhalurangunna Vazhikal, Nellu, and Kolli are some of her popular works. She penned over 17 novels and 25 anthologies of stories. Nizhalurangunna Vazhikal, Nellu, and Kolli are some of Valsala’s renowned works.
About P Valsala
P Valsala was born on August 28, 1939 at Vellimaukunnu. She did her schooling at Kanjirathinkal LP School and Nadakavu Girls High School. Valsala started writing as a hobby but later it became her passion. She is among the extremely rare group of Malayalam writers who are recognized for their works.
Throughout the course of her twenty-year literary career, Ms. Valsala has won three awards: the Muttathu Varkey, the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. It was decided that she wrote from the left. Still, she faced criticism from the left over her alleged liaisons with the far-right in her autumn years.
Valsala also served as the chairperson of the Sahitya Akademi.

P. Valasala was survived by her husband, Maroli Appukkutty, daughter, and son. She met her husband, Appukkutty, during her days teaching at Kanjirathinkal LP School and Nadakavu Girls High School.
After the wedding, Valsala and Appukkutty moved to Wayanad, and it was also the place where she wrote ” the story of the tribal communities that lived in that area. Later, Ramu Kariat made a movie about that, and Valsala wrote the screenplay.
Valsala and Appukkutty have two children, named MA Mini and Arun Maroli. Their son works in the United States, and their daughter, Dr. MA Mini, lives in India with her family. During Valsala’s last days, she lived at her daughter’s house along with her husband.
