Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Australian counterpart, PM Anthony Albanese, at the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, on Wednesday. Both the competent leaders discussed strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with a focus on cooperation in the education and innovation sectors.
India And Australia Cooperation In Education Sector
Both the PMs discussed cooperation in various sectors, and primarily the discussion was focused on the education and innovation sectors. During the discussion, both countries discussed institutional partnerships in the field of education, especially for cooperation in higher education, vocational education, training, and capacity building.
The reason for this increased cooperation is that recently, the Australian Immigration Authorities released data that stated that around 50% of students from India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka applied for an Australian student visa. But all of their visa requests were rejected.
PM Modi On His Meet With PM Albanese
PM Modi took to Twitter and shared, “Glad to meet PM Albanese. Discussed ways to further cement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on cooperation in education, innovation and other sectors. We also talked about increasing trade and maritime cooperation. @AlboMP.”
India, Australia Top-Tier Trading Partner
The two-way trade between India and Australia has grown significantly in value from USD 13.6 billion in 2007 to USD 24.3 billion in 2020. India is also Australia’s top-tier trading partner. Both countries also play a key role in stabilising the strategically important Indo-Pacific region amid China’s aggressive posturing.
The relationship between India and Australia reached a new high because both of these countries have a cold relationship with China.
