The king of Qawwali and Sufi, late Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the epitome of melodious music.
Born in Faislabad, Khan was very popular during the 90s. He had released several albums and was often seen going to concerts across the globe.
The singer was gifted with a soulful voice and was liked by people of all generations. He was also the recipient of several awards including the UNESCO Music Prize, and the President of Pakistan award.
‘The Shehenshaah-e-Qawwali’ took his last breath in 1997 and the world lost a legend. 13 October 1948 born this legend left so soon on 16 August 1997 due to illness.

This legendary ghazal was part of the Sangam album in 1996. This was written by Javed Akhtar and composed by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The song picturized Liza Ray. The song was recreated in the year 2016 with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Mustehsan at Coke Studios.
Mere Rashke Kamar
Brought back to life in the movie ‘Baadshaho’ (2017) by lyricist Manoj Muntashir and composer Tanishk Bagchi, this ghazal-qawwali was written by Fana Buland Shehri who was an Urdu poet. It was composed by Khan himself. In 1988, he performed this song with nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for the first time. It gained much popularity and was sung at every concert.
Kitna Pyara Tujhe
This hit from ‘Raja Hindustani’ was composed by Nadim-Shravan, but was copied from Khan’s original version of “Kinna Sona Tenu Rab Ne Banaya”. The recreated version featured Karisma Kapoor and Amir Khan.
Mera Piya Ghar Aya
This peppy song was among one of the most famous dance numbers in the 90s. This was recreated in the movie ‘Yaarana’ and we see Madhuri Dixit dancing to the beats of Mera Piya Ghar Aya. The song was composed by Anu Malik and was a copied version of Khan’s original work.
Kisi Ka Yaar Na Bichde
Taken from Nusrat’s collection, this song was composed by Nadim-Shravan and was picturized in the movie ‘Shreeman Ashiqui’, starring the legendary Rishi Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar.
Mujhe Ek Pal Chain Na Aave
‘Sanu Ek Pal Chain Na Aave’ were the original lyrics of this song from the movie ‘Judaai’. This was yet again composed by Nadim-Shravan.
Ye Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai
Recreated in 2018 in the movie ‘Fanney Khan’, this soulful song was originally released in the year 1992. This song remains one of the most peaceful songs to date, relieving you of your stress.
Sochta Hu ki Vo Kitne Masoom The
This copied version of Khan was recreated in the movie ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ (2018), starring Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. The copied version was composed by Rochak Kohli. The original song was performed by Khan in the 1985 UK Tour.
